People of all ages, backgrounds, new comers, families, singles, etc. have found a home here at Believers Bible Fellowship. We come together to celebrate the gospel and to be equipped for God’s mission. We want to praise God for what He has done and is doing in our lives and the lives of others.

At Believers Bible Fellowship it is our greatest desire for you to feel as if you’ve found a place to call home. Our door is open to anyone looking to make lasting connections, and grow deeper in their relationship with Jesus Christ. Feel free to come as you are, but expect to leave changed for the better.

We have a place for your children and youth that will get them connected to Jesus Christ. We want to help children and students encounter the Word of God, build authentic relationships and have some fun as they are challenged to follow Christ.

Ministries

Youth Gathering

We want to help your youth grow in their faith through fun, fellowship, and discussions in God’s word. They meet the 4th Sunday of every month from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. Some gatherings include outings and service opportunities in the community.

Seniors

Our seniors age 55 and above meet once a month, except for July and August, for a time of fellowship including day trips, going out to plays, museums, and luncheons. These activities are important to help build friendships and faith to help meet the spiritual, psychological and emotional needs of our seniors and encourage them to continue in the faith.

Men’s Huddle

Join us on the second Saturday of each month from 8:00 to 10:00 am for a study in the Word. We are using the book “Jesus the King, Understanding the Life and Death of the Son of God” by Timothy Keller as we study the Bible in the book of Mark.

Dad & Me Night

A partnership program with local elementary schools held twice a year. This is an evening of games, food and entertainment designed to encourage fathers to spend quality time with their child/children in a godly atmosphere.

Vacation Bible School

A fun-filled program offered during the summer to connect with the children and families in the community. This outreach ministry is meant to reach children who don’t normally attend church and to share the gospel.

Conference Call Prayer Meeting

A monthly devotion and prayer time on the phone is a great opportunity for the home bound that cannot come to regular services or for anyone that needs some prayer and encouragement. Members and nonmembers alike can join in monthly on the third Tuesday at 7:00 pm. Call (712) 770-5198 and at the prompt enter the code 200592#

GOD

We believe that there is one God, who is all knowing, all powerful and always present; perfect in holiness and love, existing eternal in three persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Who are one in substance, power and eternal. (Matthew 3:17, Matthew 28:19, Genesis 1:26)

JESUS

We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ as the Son of God; God-Man in the flesh, His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, atoning death, bodily resurrection from the dead, ascension back to the Father, present glory, imminent return and coming kingdom. (John 1:1, 14)

THE HOLY SPIRIT

The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and Son as God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. The Christian seeks daily to live under His control.

He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer gifts to be used in ministry to other Christians and to the world. (II Corinthians 3:17, John 16:7-13, Acts 1:8, Ephesians 1:13, Galatians 5:25)

THE BIBLE

We believe that the Bible is the authoritative Word of God, divinely inspired, accurate and infallible, and our final authority in all matters of life and practices. (2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:21, Matthew 5:18)

MAN

Man is made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. He is the supreme object of God’s creation. Although man has tremendous potential for good, he is marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called “sin”. This attitude separates man from God. (Genesis 1:27, Psalm 8:3-6, Romans 3:23, Isaiah 59:1-2)

SALVATION

Salvation is a gift from God to man. Man can never make up for his sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can man be saved from sin’s penalty. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith. (Romans 5:1, 6:23, Ephesians 2:8-9, John 1:12, 14:6, Titus 3:5, Galatians 3:26)

ETERNITY

Man was created to exist forever. After Death, one will either exist eternally united with God in Heaven, or exist eternally separated from God in Hell. The gift of eternal life is offered to every individual. Heaven and Hell are places of eternal existence. (John 3:16, 2:25, 5:11-13, Romans 6:23, Revelation 20:15, Matthew 18:8)

ETERNAL SECURITY

Because God gives man eternal life through Jesus Christ, the believer is secure in that salvation for eternity. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives this security. (John 10:28-29, Hebrews 7:25, Hebrews 10:10, 14, 1 Peter 1:3-5)

MINISTRY

It is the Pastor’s responsibility to lead the church and to equip the membership for ministry. Each member has the responsibility to discover and employ their gifts in the life of the church. Every Christian needs to discover and be faithful in their ministry for Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 12:7, Ephesians 4:11-13, Hebrews 13:17, 1 Peter 4:10-11)

PRAISE AND WORSHIP

The Christian exists to minister to the world, to other Christians, and especially to God through praise and worship. We exist for the praise of His glory. Worship is a celebration, reflective and inspirational. (Psalm 100, Ephesians 1:12, Psalm 63:3-4, Psalm 150, Psalm 126:2-3)

Pastor Alonzo and Sister Rhonda

Alonzo Johnson is a North Philadelphia native who now resides in Roslyn PA. The Lord has blessed him with an amazing wife, Rhonda and five beautiful children, Alonzo Jr, Isaac, Daniel, Caleb and Abigail.

Alonzo graduated from Word of Life Bible Institute with honors before attending Philadelphia Biblical University and graduating with a B.S. in Bible with an emphasis in Christian Leadership. He also received his Master of Divinity degree from Biblical Theological Seminary.

Alonzo was installed as Lead Pastor of Believers Bible Fellowship (BBF) on March 11, 2018. Pastor Alonzo describes his time as lead-pastor of BBF as the “sweetest time of ministry” for him and his family.

Having grown up in Raymond Rosen Projects in North Philadelphia, Alonzo understands what it feels like to grow up in a broken community that has been devastated by drugs and violence. The Lord delivered him from drug addiction and changed his heart at the age of 19. After the Lord changed his heart, he left the projects thinking that he would never return but God has given him a heart for the urban context.

Alonzo’s heart’s desire is to see an inter-generational, multi-ethnic gospel-centered community of believers that will connect with Philadelphia and surrounding communities by serving the least, the last, and the lost by making 1000 disciples. He desires for BBF to emulate Rev. 7:9 with the hope of impacting the greater Philadelphia area and the world. He firmly believes that the gospel changes people and people change the world.

As a bi-vocational, Pastor Alonzo works as the Dean of students at W.B. Saul High School.  He also serves on the Board of Every Good Gift, an organization for single moms who are seeking to break the cycle of generational poverty. Alonzo desires to be an effective communicator of God’s Word through practical and dynamic Bible teaching intended to help people apply the timeless truths of scripture to their everyday lives.  Alonzo’s life verse is Galatians 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
